What Training Do Teachers Receive After They Leave College?

Teachers hold in them the responsibility of molding the future of the country by teaching students in a manner that they will grow up and become productive citizens, by paying their taxes but by properly utilizing every skill they have for the betterment of themselves and of the nation. On the same token, it is on them if the students they handle turn out to be criminals, unproductive and menace of the society. Thus getting a bachelor's degree in education and passing the board exam is not enough to train these teachers into the best handcrafter of the delicate and unknown future of the country.

So what training do teachers receive after they leave college? In around 700 colleges and universities in the country initial training programs are engaged in to train new teachers in catering special education needs to students. These new teachers may choose to pursue further studies in this area of specialization or not.

Universities and colleges hoping to provide their teachers opportunities to undergo training programs may apply for accreditation from the NCATE of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. As they seek accreditation from NCATE, these colleges and universities are submitting themselves to be examined for whether or not they meet the meticulous standards established by the experts in this field.

Those planning to establish training programs for teachers who are planning to work with children with disabilities also have to pass accreditation by CEC or the Council for Exceptional Children.

What training do teachers receive after they leave college? It depends on the state they will be practicing as teachers. This is because in this country, every state is given the liberty to make its own policies related to education, which includes requirements in training teachers.

Learning is a continuing process. What training do teachers receive after they leave college may be different from each setting but what is always true is that studying and training do not end after they graduate. The continuous learning process is true for each person, more so those commissioned to share what they know to the younger generation. Having a degree in education is not enough but teachers, after passing the professional board exam, must be continuously trained for the real world ahead. Theory is good but application could be far different. Teachers after finishing teaching school have the option to attend conferences and talks that will give them training or more knowledge on their future careers. Aside from this, they can do some self-studying on books written by experts or read events online where professionals are invited to speak. They can opt to do this if there are no available live conferences or if money is lacking.

For what training do teachers receive after they leave college, workshops are also helpful. These workshops are for teachers aspiring to make a career out of their degree. They say the smaller the workshop is, the better, because there would be a more personal interaction between the participants and the trainer or professional heading the workshop. In these workshops, talks, trainings, debates of ideas and opinions and the like take place.

What training do teachers receive after they leave college may not always be formal. There could be trainings conducted where it is not defined as an actual training. For example, when a teacher has recently started working as a teacher in a school, he or she can engage with other teachers, preferably those who have been in the industry for a very long time, and pick up some pointers and practical knowledge in handling students or classes. These are sometimes called informal talking.
