Content:
 Social Studies Key vocabulary ice age glacier erosion sedimentation time line sequence
Goals:
 To have the students see Yosemite's transformation throughout the years and why there are the cliffs, waterfalls, mountain ranges, rivers, and domes. To make it personal to the students so they have a vested interest in the rest of the unit.
Objectives:
 The students will identify cause and effect of nature and the formation of various places in Yosemite. The student will gather information making outlines and creating graphic organizers
Materials:
 lab top computers http://booksgoogle.com http.//www.yosemite.ca.us/library/geology_of_yosemite-valley/ white construction paper pencils, crayons, colored pencils (no markers)
Introduction:
 The teacher will review key vocabulary and what the ice age was. Show various pictues of waterfalls, meadows, cliffs, domes in Yosemite using the Roadside Tour site.
Development:
 The students will go to various web sites to research the ice age history part of Yosemite The students will work in groups during the research part to help one another in finding the facts.
Practice:
 The students will be given 3 class periods and 2 homework nights to complete the time line. They will be given a graphic organizer (time line) to put their findings in order The teacher will walk around helping and keeping the groups on task
Accommodations:
 During research each child will be partnered up (ablility) to help on another. Pull out and inclusion students will have the help of their special ed teacher and given a longer time to complete the assignment. Each student will be given a copy of the rubric on which their timeline will be graded so they know what they specifically need.
Checking For Understanding:
 At the end of each class time, the students will be given a quick quizz on either key vocabulary, give a cause and effect that happened in yosemite, or verbally asking each child a question from their timeline.
Closure:
 Turn in time line. Might present them depending on time.
Evaluation:
 Each time line will be graded on a rubric that was passed out to each student.
