Lesson Plan : Sequence of Events- The Everybody Club

Teacher Name:
 Anna Norman
Grade:
 Grade 2
Subject:
 Literature Activities

Topic:
 "The Everybody Club"
Content:
Sequence of Events: Beginning, Middle, End ( for low group); First, Second, Third, Last ( for high group)
Goals:
I want all of my students to be able to recognize that a story is made up of different events. All of my students will create a story mobile that demonstrates their understanding of the sequence of events. I expect the low group to illustrate the event and use key words to describe the event. I expect that the high group will illustrate the event and use complete sentences to describe the event.
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify the sequence of events after reading "The Everybody Club". Students will be able to seperate the story into different events and illustrate and describe the event in a story mobile. Students will work indivdually and they are expected to only recieve help from the teacher. Students are not allowed to write words, sentences, or create the illustrations for others.
Materials:
"The Everybody Club"; copies fop "The Everybody Club"; construction paper; yarn, crayons.
Introduction:
Review story elements with students ( character, setting, plot, and solution); review predictions and introduce the story- ask students to orally offer predictions of the story. Introduce that stories are comprised of different events.
Development:
Read aloud "The Everybody Club". While reading, I will "think aloud" of the differnt things that are occuring. After the read aloud is complete, I will then "think aloud" a summary of the events that happened.
Practice:
As a class, we will review the key events that happened. I will write them on the board as students offer them up. On a graphic organizer, students will work with teacher to complete the sequence of events.
Accommodations:
I expect the low group to illustrate the event and use key words to describe the event. I expect that the high group will illustrate the event and use complete sentences to describe the event.
Checking For Understanding:
Students will briefly pair/share to make sure their events align. Then, as a whole class, we will review the key points.
Closure:
Students will share out their story mobile.
Evaluation:
I will assess their story mobile.
Teacher Reflections:
After the assessment, I will see what I need to review.
