Goals:
 Students will learn about seeds, plants, and the resources needed for a plant to grow. This activity will be introduced and then be revisited over a period of few weeks.
Objectives:
 Given a plant, students will be able to identify the different parts of a growing plant.
Materials:
 plant, seeds, dirt, water, plastic bag, paper towel, window, small container, spoon or small shovel.
Introduction:
 Students will be shown a small plant in a pot. The teacher will ask the students to tell what they know about the plant. The teacher will remove the plant from the container and shake off all the dirt. What do the students see now? How did the roots get there?
Development:
 Students will be given a seed, paper towel, plastic bag, water. Students will be helped to fold the paper towel, wet it, place the seed on the wet paper towel, place in the plastic bag, seal, and tape to the window in the class.
Practice:
 Each day, students will monitor the changes that are occurring in the seed and will learn to identify each part as it grows.
Accommodations:
 Students will be assisted in seed preparation as needed due to physical disabilities. Sign language for the vocabulary will be taught for the student who does not verbalize.
Checking For Understanding:
 Students will be able to color, cut out, and glue the parts of a plant to the correct part of the plant.
Closure:
 Students will plant their seedling to take home.
Evaluation:
 Students were able to recall the names of the parts of the plant.

 How well were the students able to name the parts of the plant? What were the positives/negatives of the lesson? What would you do differently next time?
