Objectives: | Students will be able to identify, Compare and Contrast Levels of Organization including cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and organisms; create a flow map of the sequence of levels |
Materials: | Construction Paper, markers, string, hole puncher |
Introduction: | Discuss with class the contents of every living organism; Read aloud Chapter 2 Section 3 on the levels of organization |
Development: | Discuss the levels of organization; Show students on the board, what was read about the order of the levels of organization; discuss the function of each level; show them how the mobile flow map activity will be carried out |
Practice: | Students will create a mobile of a flow map that consists of the levels of organization and a description of each. Top level will be the students own design (choose one:cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism), the second level will be a flow map of the levels of organization in increasing order, the third level will be descriptions of the functions located directly below the level it describes. |
Accommodations: | Students will be allowed to use the textbook as they work on the assignment, further explanation of the lesson |
Checking For Understanding: | Exit Slips should show the levels of organization in sequential order, and the functions of the levels; An assessment at the end of the week and the end of the unit will also include this lesson. |
Closure: | Summarize the lesson- levels of organization in sequential order, functions of each level |
Evaluation: | I think this lesson will help students to understand the material through the reading aloud, the discussion, the model shown on the board and the practice through creating a mobile flow map including all of the covered information.The exit slips should reflect what they actually remember since they will be allowed to use the textbooks for the assignement. The homework assigment will also further the practice. |
