Objectives: | Students will demonstrate comprehension about fire safety and prevention. |
Materials: | Clifford the Firehouse Dog (book), pictures of a iron, matches, lighter, candles, or other fire related items. Red garland(christmas tree decorations) to use a pretend fire. Two white paper plates per child, black crayons/markers, and glue. |
Introduction: | Display possible fire safety hazards(iron, candle, lighter, matches, etc.) Encourage children to identify objects and explain why they are dangerous. |
Development: | Read..Clifford the Firehouse Dog. Preview and predict the story. Walk through the pages of the book and discuss the illustrations. |
Practice: | Students will have the opportunity to role play the importance of stop, drop and roll if their clothes or person were on fire. Place red garland around students to pretend that it is fire and ask them to demonstrate stop, drop and roll. |
Accommodations: | Left handed scissors. Physically helping students with the stop, drop and roll activity |
Checking For Understanding: | Ask students what they learned about fire safety and prevention. Did they learn anything new or what was a review? |
Closure: | Sing finger plays or songs related to fire safety and preventions. Hand out cinnomon candy..HOT! |
Evaluation: | How will did students understand the concept of fire safety and prevention? Were they able to give you verbal feedback in their own words about its importance? |
