Objectives: | SWBAT solve multiplication and division problems using a four step program and strategies. FOUR STEPS = understand - plan(choose a strategy)- solve - explain (look back) act out or use objects make a picture or diagram use or make a table make an organized list guess and check use or look for a pattern work backwards use logical reasoning make it simpler brainstorm |
Materials: | The Problem Solver 2 Activities fro Learning Problem Solving Strategies - Creative Productions packet form - overheads |
Introduction: | introduce first 3 strategies and model process on overhead |
Development: | modeling the problem solving and thinking processes to get a solution on the overhead manipulatives available if needed |
Practice: | practice and independent practice worksheets |
Accommodations: | Students will be given extra time. Also accommodate any Individual Education Plan requirements or provisions. |
Checking For Understanding: | fourth step of method is written form or explanation of process taken to solve. This explanation must prove the application chosen |
Closure: | problem solving game teams. We will take 30 minutes to plan. Students have to get the same answer to a problem using 3 or more different strategies. |
