Goals:
 Students will understand how to evaluate health information and develop evaluation criteria for health information
Objectives:
 Student will use decision-making skills and their knowledge of health information to demonstrate ways to utilize criteria to evaluate health information
Materials:
 health magazines, health books from the library, nutrition guides, all health resources available to students
Introduction:
 Display school resources in health at the front of the room and allow students to choose one item as they enter the classroom.Have the students read an article and answer 3 questions about the item they choose. 1. What type of health information discussed in the article? 2.A)Where does the health information come from? (Journal, book, magazine, internet, newspaper, etc.)B)Is this source reliable? 3. What is your opinion on the article?
Development:
 Recall previous days lesson on different health topic and emphasize the importance of getting good information on health topics. Use an example from students warm up activity to discuss how to evaluate health information. Demonstrate how to find the source and topic of an article.
Practice:
 Get student into 4 groups. Group one will create a list on the board of criteria for evaluating health information. Group two will examine 4 different articles to find the source, author, title, date published and topic. Write it on the board. Group three and four will read and discuss two articles and decide if they agree or disagree with the health information and why?
Accommodations:
 ELL students will be able to choose their group. Special Education student will only need to complete a certain amount of their worksheet. Gift students will be given the chance to be the leader of their group.
Checking For Understanding:
 Teacher will rotate from group to group to provide feedback and monitor focus

 Review how their list of criteria help determine the quality
Evaluation:
 Exit slip: on a note card answer how will you use the health information from class today?
