Goals:
 The learner will understand that the length of an instrument dictates the pitch.
Objectives:
 Given a box and rubber bands, the learner will build an instrument and demonstrate the various pitches based on length and width of various rubber bands.
Materials:
 Kleenex box or any other box with a hole in it. Rubber bands ... provided by the teacher. Guitar
Introduction:
 Ask the question ... Does a small instrument make a high or low pitch and does a large instrument make a high or low pitch?
Development:
 Use the guitar to demonstrate length, thickness and tightning and loosening of the string to change pitch.
Practice:
 Students will work on building their instrument using the kleenex box.
Accommodations:
 Students who experience difficulty may work with a partner or the teacher.
Checking For Understanding:
 Ask the question ... Does a small instrument make a high or low pitch and does a large instrument make a high or low pitch?
Closure:
 Students can take turns sharing their "instruments" that they made and demonstrate high and low pitches.
Evaluation:
 Did the learner perceive the difference between long and short strings? Did the learner perceive the difference between tight (short) and loose (long) stings?
