Teacher Name:
 Bethany Wolford
Grade:
 Kindergarten
Subject:
 Math

Topic:
 Creating and Extending Patterns
Content:
pattern - when a sequence of object, colors, shapes, etc. repeat
Goals:
The learner will model simple patterns and sort objects.
Objectives:
The learner will create and extend patterns using actions, words, and objects.
Materials:
 -Elmo -Smart-board -manipulatives
Introduction:
Access prior knowledge by creating simple patterns (ABAB, ABBA, ABC, etc) using simple body movements, such as clapping and stomping, and manipulatives.
Development:
Explain that there are other ways to create patterns, such as by using words. Demonstrate an ABAB pattern using the phrase, "Hi Bob." Ask, "If I say, 'Hi' what word comes next?" Create other patterns with words that aren't phrases (my-duck-red) and have students figure out the letter pattern.
Practice:
Give the class more patterns and have the students determine the letter pattern. -dog bird bird dog -black blue purple black blue purple Ask the students to think of an AABB, ABCD, ABAB pattern using words. Share with the class.
Accommodations:
-preferential seating for students lacking focus -Off-task students will be paired with an on task student
Checking For Understanding:
The teacher will do a quick check of the students pattern paper. The teacher will also conduct informal assessments of the students as they think and share different patterns that correspond to the letter pattern given.
Closure:
Play "follow the leader" using a pattern for the students to follow.
Evaluation:
Use a checklist to determine which students mastered the skill and which students need small group remediation.
