 The FOIL method of distributing binomials
Content:
 Multiplying two binomials to form a polynomial, combining like terms, and adding exponents.
Goals:
 For students to successfully retain and use the foil method to expand two binomials
Objectives:
 Students will understand the fundamentals of the FOIL method and will use it to distribute binomials. Given two binomials, students will be able to multiply the correct terms of the binomial and also be able to combine any like terms.
Materials:
 Colored dry erase markers and white board
Introduction:
 We will begin lesson with and explanation of the acronym FOIL and an explanation of each of its steps. We will also show the correlation between the FOIL method and the distributive property.
Development:
 We will do several examples together through guided practice until students have a firm understanding of the procedure of the FOIL method.
Practice:
 Students will do a few problems independently, while the teacher walks around to monitor the progress.

Checking For Understanding:
 Students will pair up and compare their answers with their partner. The teacher will then review all answers.
Closure:
 Students will be asked to recite, together, the meaning of each part the acronym FOIL.
