Lesson Plan : Exploring Angle Relationships

Teacher Name:
 Mrs. Jackson
Grade:
 Grade 6
Subject:
 Math

Topic:
 Exploring Angle Relationships
Content:
Introduce Students to and Have them apply Vocabulary of General - Line - Line segment - Traversal - Parallel lines Angles associated with parallel lines - Corresponding angles - Alternate interior angles - Alternate exterior angles - Interior angles of a traversal - Exterior angles of a traversal.
Goals:
At the end of class students will know and be able to draw: Lines - Line segments - -Traversal - Parallel lines Angles associated with parallel lines - Corresponding angles - Alternate interior angles - Alternate exterior angles - Interior angles of a traversal - Exterior angles of a traversal.
Objectives:
COMPETENCY GOAL 3: The learner will understand and use properties and relationships of geometric figures in the coordinate plane. Objectives 3.01 Identify and describe the intersection of figures in a plane. Descriptors (pdf, 16kb) | Indicators (pdf, 57kb) | Tasks
Materials:
Smart Board, website http://www.mathopenref.com/anglesalternateinterior.html, Construction Paper or White Paper for Ornament - Notes
Introduction:
Activating Prior Knowledge by asking students what they know about lines by filling in a KWL Chart.
Development:
Students will be able to give information about most of the vocabulary for this lesson. We covered these terms in previous lessons. After reviewing(by using the website with dynamic modeling of terms) students will create ornaments for our Christmas Tree.
Practice:
Students will draw with straight edges each type of angle and line and will write its definition on the back of the ornament. If time permits and materials are available students will use pasta to complete their ornaments.
Accommodations:
Students will be given additional activities for those finishing first. Also, students will be given the option of completing their ornaments at home.
Checking For Understanding:
Because there will be time for students to start their Homework prior to leaving the classroom the teacher will be able to determine the level of student understanding. Additional learning opportunities will follow in later class sessions.
Closure:
The teacher will select several students to have them summarize the lesson.
Evaluation:
Homework will be graded and returned to students in a timely fashion and students will be encouraged to discuss problems that they missed or did not understand. A weekly quiz will be given on Thursday of the week the lesson is taught.
