Content:
 Vacabulary for Washington Irving's, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" Legend, schoolmaster, Hudson River, Washington Irving, Ichabod Crane, Dutch, Katrina, Hessian Soldier, Brom Bones, Headless Horseman
Goals:
 The students will become familiar with the key names and vocabulary of Irving's, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". They will be assessed using a variety of methods, including: fill-in-the-blanks using paper/pencil/computer-assisted technology, e-read, font adjustable, yes/no recognition, verbally, or otherwise demonstrated (pointing, etc)
Objectives:
 The students will be able to correctly identify primary characters, author, place, and key vocabulary relating to the classic, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".
Materials:
 Boardmaker, e-text, photo/text scan, chart paper, graphic organizers, word processing with adjustable font, spelling, word search, crossword puzzle in both paper technological form, match game, graphic images, video
Introduction:
 (Story was previously read aloud in class by teacher, using visuals, charts, graphics, text and visual descriptions of characters and vocabulary) Vocabulary Development utilizing Match Game cards made specifically for the characters, author, place, vocabulary of this story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"
Development:
 Show the students a set of Match Game cards on which a graphic on one card matches a set of words/definition on another card. There are 20 cards; 10 sets to match the words outlined above. There is an computer-based form of the game, using large font, simplistic language, voice synthesizer, yes/no recognition. The teacher will review the picture/graphic and the corresponding definition. She will simulate playing to match two sets using the manual and technological Match games.
Practice:
 The children will work in pairs to play this game. Teacher and assistant will work the room, offering assistance/guidance when needed.
Accommodations:
 To accommodate a student who is a low reader (1st grade level, but grade level on listening comprehension) this story is being read aloud by the teacher. To accommodate two children with physical disabilities that have neurological and fine motor difficulties, the use of computer technology to access curriculum and assessment. Video of the story (children's version, 33 mins) for visual learners, adhd, add, poor readers, verbal-processing difficulties.
Checking For Understanding:
 Check students peer collaboration, and independent work for accuracy.
