Content: | Students will be reading passages similiar to the selections seen on the End of Grade test. They will be using test taking strategies to respond to the questions at the end of the selections. |
Goals: | The goal is for students to be able to read and comprehend reading passages and being abe to respond to the questions that accompany the passages with accuracy. |
Objectives: | TLW evaluate their understanding of literary genres by responding to questions with at least 80% accuracy. |
Materials: | Document Camera, Projector, Take Ten Cards ( for warm-up), highlighters, pens, reading selections. |
Introduction: | Students will respond to 7warm up questions tat will help get their minds focused on the task at hand. The questions will consist of a short passage that has one question that they must answer with accuracy. We will go over the student responses once all students have answered the question |
Development: | I will use the document camera and show students how to determine what to highlight as they are reading a passage. I will use the warm-up questions to demonstrate tis. |
Practice: | I will have students practice their highlighting skills as they respond to the warm-up questions. |
Accommodations: | To accomodate for some students who have difficulty with reading the passage I will do one of the following: 1. Read the passage with the student 2. Let students partner read |
Checking For Understanding: | After about 20 minutes we will go over student responses. I will answer any student questions about questions that they got wrong. |
Closure: | Students will review highlighting strategies. Students will share one thing that they learned from the passage read. Before they leave the classroom they must share their resposne with the class. |
Evaluation: | Students will be evaluated by the accuracy that they responded to the questions at the end of the passage. This will count as a classrwork grade for students. Students will also recieve 5 bonus points for using proper highlighting techniques. |
Teacher Reflections: | I noticed that this lesson benefited my students. I noticed that by using proper highlighting techniques that students answered more questions correctly instead of incorrectly. |
