Introduction: | This lesson uses the story The Westing Game to motivate students to think and read for detail. |
Development: | Teacher will choose a character and describe why she likes a particular character in a book. This will be done on the overhead as a guided practice activity. |

Accommodations: | EC students can list reasons they like a character or in some cases EC teacher will scribe for the student. |
Checking For Understanding: | Teacher will conference with students and edit for correct grammar and spelling. Students will edit their work after conference. |
Closure: | Student will copy edited paper into their journal. Rough draft will be kept in writing folder. |
Evaluation: | Teacher will read papers to determine if the student has given enough information to support the assignment - Why is the character their favorite. |
Teacher Reflections: | Teacher will evaluate papers. The story is being read in class. Do the students understand the story and characters? |
