 1. The teacher will read Miss Nelson is Missing aloud to the entire class. 2.Ask the children to write down on a piece of paper what would happen if the teacher did not show up in the classroom one day. How would this make them feel? 4.You may want to provide several pictures of feelings (facialexpression chart) and allow them to answer by drawing the appropriate picture. This gives the ELL beginner the chance to respond if unsure of the vocabulary. 5.Have the class share their answers in a whole group setting.Allow the students to share their answer simply by pointing to the facial expression chart. Non-verbal gestures should beencouraged as they are building connections and meaning to the content. 6. After the read aloud and the discussion the children will then go to their seats. 7. They will be given a variety of materials such as paper plates, crayons, and popsicle sticks. 8. The children will be instructed to create at least three different masks for three different feelings/emotions. 9. Once everyone is finished, have the children come to the carpet with their masks. 10.
