Materials:
 Anthology: World Masterpieces
Introduction:
 Introduction to the philosophies: Naturalism and Realism. Compare and contrast characteristics. Use examples and discuss naturalistic and realistic situations. Student sharing time.
Development:
 -Read each story and discuss the plot line for each. Compare and contrast the similarities and differences. -Identify author's 'realistic reference to real-life issues within each story-particularly in Two Friends.
Practice:
 -What figures of speech does author use to impress reader and drive home the point. Examples of imagery-use supplemental sheet-see attached from World MasterpiecesII Teaching Portfolio. -Group divisions to discuss certain questions related to themes, naturalism
