Objectives: | daily objective will cover one topic at a time as listed in the goals. Each topic will be modeled and demonstrated before being released to the students. |
Materials: | Overhead, chalkboard, paper, and journals |
Introduction: | Introduction of the journal by discussing the theme, elements, characters, setting. Begin by making predictions about the title and the protagonist. |
Development: | read the first chapter, stopping at important ideas, elements and events. Document those ideas and events on a chart. Point out important facts and details. |
Practice: | Guide the first two session of small groups by assigning taks to each member and monitoring their progress. Give them a chart to document details and flow. |
Accommodations: | Place low and high readers in the same group. Allow the low group tasks that fit their deveopment and still allow for enrichment. |
Checking For Understanding: | Construct five weekly questions that relate to each chapter as an entry task. Monitor group progress and require documentation as part of the groups work. |
Closure: | Wrap up by going over each chapter as a class. |
Evaluation: | students will be assessed on how well they conduct the group work, progress and individual jobs. A final assessment will be in the form of a test. |
