The students will be formally assigned their part in the play (previously, we discussed the preferences of each student; assigned part tried, as best as possible, to comply with student's request). Students will practice the vocabulary related to the story.
Materials:
Copies of the play for each student. Journal, pencils. Previously written index cards with vocabulary words and definitions. Teacher-generated Match-game.
Introduction:
We will review the plays components. The play is about a miserly baker, who is annoyed by his jovial neighbor who enjoys the smell of the baker's pastries, without ever buying. The baker sues for compensation. We will discuss this conflict, and the resolution. This will lead to a discussion of the theme of the play: that good neighbors are worth more than gold. The children will write about their assigned character roles in the play. They will describe their character's traits, personality, qualities, faults.
Development:
I am assigned the role of Judge in the play. I will model for the students how I will record key traits of the judge on a Character Development form. I will model writing three good sentences about my character. The second part of this activity involves practicing vocabulary. I will give a demonstration of the Match game vocabulary activity.
Practice:
The students will complete the first part of the character form, while I monitor their work. When completed, they will be encouraged to proceed to the sentence part of the form. The second activity involves the story's vocabulary. We will practice the vocabulary by playing the Match Game.
Accommodations:
Use of Graphic organizer for organizing key words related to student's character. Use of interactive game for practice of vocabulary.
Checking For Understanding:
 1. Students Character Development form will be checked for accuracy and content on details of their character. Teacher observation when playing the match game to assess the comfort level and accuracy of students vocabulary pronounciation, and understanding of definition; ability to give a synonym.
