 Review eight parts of speech--verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.
Goals:
 Students will be able to identify the eight parts of speech--verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections, with 100% accuracy and defend their choices.
Objectives:
 Students will... 1. Review and discuss the eight parts of speech in the poem, "The Grammar Lesson" by Steve Kowit. 2. In pairs, complete the review handout; in addition, as part of completing the handout, students will be expected to defend why they identified each tested part of speech as they did.
Materials:
 Kowit, Steve. The Grammar Lesson, Tilbury House Publishers, Gardiner, Maine, 1995 Grammar Review handout--created by teacher
Introduction:
 Teacher and students will recite the poem--"The Grammar Lesson" by Steve Kowit, together. Students will be asked to explain the parts of speech described in the poem in their own words.
Development:
 Teacher will ask students to underline or circle the parts of speech in the poem as the teacher re-interates their meaning and purpose.
Practice:
 Students may work individually or in small groups to review the parts of speech information presented in the poem. As students are reviewing the poem definition provided for each part of speech, students will also complete the parts of speech handout for selected parts of speech.
Accommodations:
 No accomodations required by IEP for this group.
Checking For Understanding:
 The class will review and discuss the parts of speech in the sentences on the worksheet.
Closure:
 A review of the poem--The Grammar Lesson.
Evaluation:
 Students will be successful in this lesson if they are able to: 1. complete the "Review: Parts of Speech" handout at a 100% level, (NOTE: Students have the option to choose the correct answer again if they choose incorrectly the first time.) and 2. explain why they identified their answer as the part of speech they listed.
