Goals:
 Introduce Shakespearean theater and the history of Elizabethan theater through sudying Shakepeares' Romeo and Juliet The role of the minstral theater during the time of Shakespeare. Medieval entertainment still relevant to today's society.
Objectives:
 Develop understanding of poetic verse and expressions. (Shakepearean verse) Develop an interest in the realm of theater as it reflects real life circumstances, through (Shakespeare's) plot and characters. The relation of Shakepearean plot lines and their application in even today's time of television. Or even real life situations as they pertain to the class.
Materials:
 Romeo and Juliet (Oxford school) reader Shakepereare in Love (1995)VHS/or DVD (various clips) Romeo and Juliet (1997)VHS/DVD (entire after reading is finished Class notes (www.gradesaver.com)
Introduction:
 Introductory handouts for Shakespearean verse/prose: Elizabethan times (history). Shakespearean expressions. History of Elizabethan theater.
Development:
 Overview of the play itself. Introduce characters and develop plot line.
Practice:
 Continued READ ALOUD strategy with the class. After each act and scene, a recap of notes on the context and content.
Accommodations:
 Handout "How to speak Shakespeare"
Checking For Understanding:
 Recap prose style and its use for the time, analysis of plot and characters involved. How the pot is affected by characters and vice versa.
Closure:
 Reinforcing getting past Shakepearean verse in order to understand the actual development of the plot line.
Evaluation:
 I will rotate each student in the class through the various speaking parts of the play in order for all of them to gain an experience in reading the play aloud.
