Objectives: | Given the opportunity to practice and review information about ocean life with their teams, students will independently: 1. Name and describe two major habitats of the oceans. 2. Identify three animals that live in the ocean. 3. Know the difference between waves, tides and currents. |
Materials: | Computer and projector for viewing the presentation. Chart paper for discussion ideas and brainstorming. Ocean animal fact packets pages from thelearningpage.com |
Introduction: | Tell students that we are going to begin a two week study on oceans! Generate list of what classroom students already know about oceans and record on chart paper. Introduce PowerPoint slideshow. |
Development: | Present slide show to class. Discuss each slide in detail. Students answer questions that are presented on selected slides. Class discussion (Q/A session) about the presentation. |
Practice: | Show students an example of one ocean animal fact sheet. Discuss animal fact items listed on the sheet. Instruct students to study and color the sheet. |
Accommodations: | Fact sheet booklets that are pre-bound available. Give students the opportunity to view the slide show independently. |
Checking For Understanding: | Check answers to questions from the slide presentation. Discussion of presentation and student input. |
Closure: | Students will work in teams of four. They will list four things that they learned in class today. Then they will share these with the class. They will use chart paper to present. |
Evaluation: | How well did the teams work together? Was the information on the team charts correct and did they choose important information to share? |
