 Writing a paragraph to explain how something works.
Content:
 Conjunctions - the skill of combining sentences by using connective conjunctions and punctuation like colons to denote a list.
Goals:
 The student will use the 6-step writing process to produce an expository paragraph with emphasis on the writing traits presentation and voice.
Objectives:
 The student will demonstrate knowledge of the 6 stages of the writing process from gathering information using the internet search engine Google to organizing a central idea, writing a rough draft, make revisions and add more vocabulary,final draft
Materials:
 Computer tech lab for the subject search and research. class laptop with projector and ppt presentation to explain the steps involved in the writing lesson and examples of conjunctions in sentence structure.
Introduction:
 Introduce expository writing and explain that students are to use conjunctions in a writing exercise.
Development:
 PowerPoint demonstration of types of expository paragraphs with emphasis on paragraphs that explain how something works.Example:How do you sew a button on a shirt? Demonstrate with a simple magic trick and explain how the trick is done.
Practice:
 1. help students make a decision about what they will write about. A list will be provided and students can choose from the list or from their own topic idea. 2.Guide internet search activity.
Accommodations:
 Work with each student to individually analyze where they are in the writing process and use different approaches by understanding where each student is in the writing process.
Checking For Understanding:
 The student will give an oral presentation of how something works and be able to develop a simple ppt presentation during the computer lab with the researched information.
Closure:
 Review the 6-step writing process and the development of "a how to do" ppt presentation with the students
Evaluation:
 The student can combine sentences to add variety to writing. Improve spelling skills. Improve presentation skills. Improve internet research and PowerPoint skills.
