Goals: | -Students will correctly sequence a pictorial image of The Very Hungry Caterpillar on a sequencing strip -Students will re-tell the story using their sequencing strip |

Materials: | Book-The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle -colour, laminated, magnetic version of students sequence pictures -b&w sequence pictures (DKLT website) -popsicle sticks (for caterpillar puppets) -sequence strip (heavy paper) -crayons |
Introduction: | -read book A Very Hungry Caterpillar -tell children we are going to put the color sequencing cards in order and then retell the story |
Development: | -put the sentences together as a group then practice retelling the story -model retelling of story for students using the caterpillar puppet -have individual students retell parts of the story then practice out loud as a group |
Practice: | -students will work in small groups of six at the conference table for teacher support -students will colour the pictures, cut them out then glue them to the sequence strip in the correct order |
Accommodations: | -teacher modelling -scaffolded instruction -sequence chart available for student reference |

Teacher Reflections: | The retelling portion was very fun. In the future I would save more time for that portion of the lesson. |
