Lesson Plan : Awesome Adjectives!

Teacher Name:
 Miss May
Grade:
 Grade 5
Subject:
 Language Arts

Topic:
Good Adjectives, and NOT so good adjectives.
Content:
 ADJECTIVES, ADJECTIVES, ADJECTIVES!
Goals:
Students should know good adjectives from bad adjectives!
Objectives:

Materials:

Introduction:
Display two adjectives on the board (ex. cool and fantastic) Ask your students which one is more interesting.
Development:
Adjectives like cool, nice, fun, and awesome are over used adjectives and instead of making your writing better, they make it worse. They are boring!
Practice:
Have your students list as many adjectives as they can think of (good or bad) within a certain time limit (your choice). Choose one or two students to read word by word, their adjectives. Out loud the class can say good or bad, and if you're really into it, Fantastic and Horrid!
Accommodations:

Checking For Understanding:
Ideas: Hold a test on adjectives, do a worksheet, or do a game. Game: Have a beach ball. Throw the ball around the circle and when you catch it you must name a good or bad adjective based on what the teacher tells you!
Closure:
Explain how to use good and bad adjectives in everyday life. Have the students write a paragraph.
Evaluation:
If the student understands the lesson and is confident enough he or she will no longer use cool, nice, etc. If the student does not understand the lesson and is confused he or she will continue to use cool, nice, etc.
Teacher Reflections:
This should be a fun lesson to teach and to learn. When I taught this to my kids, we had fun and made up stories about Mr. Good Adjective and Mr. Bad Adjective. It was VERY fun! You can change it to make it fun and even add on your own spice. Hope this was helpful.
