Goals:
 Competency Goal 5:Becoming an Industrial Society (1877-1900) - The learner will describe innovations in technology and business practices and assess their impact on economic, political, and social life in America.
Objectives:
 5.02 Explain how business and industrial leaders accumulated wealth and wielded political and economic power. 5.04 Describe the changing role of government in economic and political affairs.

Introduction:
 1.Since this will be the first day the students are introduced to the Goal 5 Unit I will hand out the Goal 5 Study Guide and Objectives, we will go throught the pacing guide for the four days of the goal and inform them that their will be a quiz (open note) after we cover everything(5 min) 2.I will then begin to lecture on big business and ask the students how what we have learned in Goal 4 has helped setup a economic system that begins to lend itself to big businesss and Robber Barons or Industrail Statesmen (7 min) 3. Following the prior knowledge lecture and short discussion I will inform the students that at this point we will begin to cover the days vocabulary and that they need to get out a notebook to take notes with that I will collect at the end of the unit. (3 min) Since this will be a shift in classroom policy I will clearly explain to the students how I will look for vocabulary in their notebooks and of my expectations.

 1.Power point/Lecture 45 (min)
Practice:
 2. Students will complete a graphic organizer study guide on The Rise of technology and Industrial growth and one on The Rise of Big Business. I will give 15 min for completion, circulating the room making sure students are picking up on the right causes and effects. If I see students are having trouble I will go ahead and lead a discussion on it where I guide them to the proper answers in the book, if they seem to be completing it well I will end it with a review of the proper answers through lecture and discussion (15-20 min) 3. I will hand out to students a sheet that contains notes on Grant's Administration and its impact on big businesses and society (5-10 min to review) 4. I will hand out to both classes a primary source document on Robber Barons that I will review and ask that they read aloud in sections (10 min)
Accommodations:
 1. Can provide students copy of power point for a stronger source of notes. 2. The graphic organizer will serve to help kinesthetic learners as well as visual, also spatial intelligence as they can visually conceptualize a mapping or charting of events 3. Reading the primary source aloud will be helpful to auditory learners.
Checking For Understanding:
 1. The worksheets that I will handout along with the responses of students from questions will be my sumative assessment. 2. Students will have to recite key terms and their significance.
Closure:
 1. I will inform students of what we did today, remind them of what they should have in their notes for today, homework and inform them briefly of what we are going to do tomorrow(1-3 min)
