Materials:
 -markers -crayons -found objects -hole puncher -yarn -tagboard -cardboard -newspapers
Introduction:
 Ask children to describe what happens when two people sit on a seesaw -discuss how to get a seesaw to balance so that both are off the ground at the same time -explain that one type of hanging sculpture, called a mobile, is also an artwork where balance is important -point out that because mobiles hang from above, when the air moves, parts of the mobile move, too.
Development:
 EXPLAIN: -When making a mobile, artists use different colors/textures. The parts of the mobile can look real or abstract. The artist can even use found objects such as beads, buttons, sequins, etc.
Practice:
 TRANSPARENCY: "DESCRIBE" WHAT DO YOU SEE? -a mobile made up of six shapes hanging from wire "ANALYZE" HOW DOES THE MOBILE STAY BALANCED? -possible response: the shapes and strings are placed at different sizes and places to keep it balanced "INTERPRET" WHY DID THE ARTIST HANG THE BIG SHAPE ON THE LEFT? WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU ABOUT THE SHAPES? -possible response: to make the mobile hang straight, the big shape is as heavy as the others combined "JUDGE" WHERE WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO HANG THIS MOBILE? WHY? -possible response: near a window or fan so that air could move its parts
