Goals:
 By reading colorful language that involves the senses (sight, sound, smell), the students will gain an understanding of how an author might engage the reader.
Objectives:
 Students will be able to write a paragraph detailing their favorite place; using language that engages the readers senses. (Clearly students will focus on sight, but all will be encouraged to try to think of smells and sounds).
Materials:
 Projector; copies of Harcourt Reader; paper; writing utensils.
Introduction:
  Examples of what colorful or descriptive language may be IE - Bang; crash; Stinks; glowing Examples may be found on pages 23,24 and 32.
Development:
  Ask students to offer their own colorful words
Practice:
  The class may compose a sentence or two as a whole or in small groups.

  Review student's paragraphs in small groups; encourage discussion.
Closure:
  Ask students to offer some examples to share with the class

 Formal - Read students works. Assign grade based on conventions and effort. Informal - Consider student's effort to complete assignment.
