Introduction:
Group discussion of feelings regarding the start of the school year. Students brainstorm feelings, with teacher listing them on board. If not supplied by a student, teacher contributes "Confused" & "Disorganized". When class contributions are exhausted, class reads, together, all choices. Teacher then writes on board: Confused + Disorganized = _oo_ grades. Ask students to guess the word by supplying the missing letters. Explain that today's activity is going to help them avoid poor grades by becoming less confused and more organized.
Development:
Teacher models 1st step of organizer completion (listing classes, in order of day)Students fill in organizer (only 1st line). Teacher checks for accuracy before allowing independent work.
Practice:
Using smartboard, teacher demonstrates how to complete worksheet by answering the questions and writing the answers, using the smartboard pen. Check for understanding by observation and allowing questions.
Accommodations:
Allow students to talk appropriately among themselves to share information with common classes.
Checking For Understanding:
Teacher moves around room, checking progress and providing feedback.
Closure:
About 5 minutes before class is over, teacher should pose the following questions: 1. What information do you still need to complete each section? How can you get this information? How much time do you think you will need to complete this activity?
Evaluation:
When worksheets are completed (1 or 2 days later), teacher collects them, makes a copy, and returns worksheets to students. Teacher evaluates worksheets, looking for incomplete information or areas of concern that may need to be addressed. Teacher makes notes for individual conferencing with student at follow-up conference.
Teacher Reflections:
Teacher files worksheets and keeps them for future reference when questions or issues with these classes arise.
