Introduction:
State the standard we are working on. Reading Standard 2: Getting the meaning: Comprehension Tell the children that "today we are going to work on the reading strategy: questioning. It is very important to question what we read so we can understand what it is we are reading. I am going to read a book to you and I want you to listen to what I am reading because I am going to ask you questions during the reading and after."
Development:
Read Papa, Do You Love Me. Ask questions (on sticky note already in book) during readinga and after. Questions during the reading: Who do you think these people are? What do they do? Where do you thik this takes place? Does this tribe remind you of anything? Questions after the reading: What does elder mean? Can you tell me something you notice about their clothing? Why od you thik it is different from ours? What do you think the author means by birthright cow?
Practice:
Guided reading groups: meeting with 3-4 groups (these are differentiated).
Accommodations:
Differentiating my reading groups to best meet their needs. Centers allow children to work at their own pace and get help from para and peers.
Checking For Understanding:
The children have work they have to do at each center and worksheets about their center that they have to finish.
