Lesson Plan : Science - Electrostatics

Teacher Name:
 E. Rowan
Grade:
 Preschool
Subject:
 Science

Topic:
 Science - Electrostatics
Content:
To rub a balloon against children's heads, and watch as it sticks to the wall.
Goals:
 1. To "show cuiosity, observe and manipulate objects" 2. To "Investigate obects and materials by using all of their senses as appropriate" From the Stepping Stones for the Early Learning Goal for Exploration and investigation, Knowledge and Understanding of the world, Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Objectives:
 1. To observe what happens when a balloon is rubbed on your head and then placed on the wall. 2. To take part in a scientific experiment and be curious.
Materials:
 Balloon.
Introduction:
 1. The children will watch as I blow up a balloon and tie it. 2. I will then get their attention as I rub it on one of their heads. 3. I will tell them that there is something happening which means that the balloon will stick to the wall.
Development:
 1. I will ask who believes me, and say that we will test it. 2. I will then get one of the children to hold the balloon by the wall and let go.
Practice:
 1. Hopefully the Balloon will stick to the wall, due to the electrostatics involved. 2. I can then talk about the fact that the balloon really did stick to the wall, who got their prediction right?
Accommodations:

Checking For Understanding:
I will question the children, for example "was that interesting?" "did everyone see what happened?" to allow their curiosity to develop.
Closure:
 1. I will praise the children on trying hard and having a go. 2. I will talk over what we did, to re-cap.
Evaluation:
 1. Did all the children take part in the activity? 2. Did all the children enyoy the activity? 3. Did all the children get the chance to see the balloon sticking to the wall?
