Lesson Plan : Noodle Tools
Teacher Name: | Erin Clarke / Ms. Owlett |
Grade: | Grade 9-10 |
Subject: | Literature Activities |
Topic: | Noodle Tools |
Content: | Demonstrate to students how to locate and utilize Noodle Tools, an engine that helps users generate proper citations in either MLA or APA format. |
Goals: | To ensure students understand the importance of including proper citations for the works they have quoted or paraphrased, to show the step by step process for locating the Noodle Tools web site, creating a username, password and folder to save citations, and to show the step by step process for creating an MLA citation for a book with one author. |
Objectives: | Students will create an account with Noodle Tools for future use and understand how to use the Noodle Tools process to complete MLA citations. |
Materials: | CCHS computer lab with 24 student workstations, 4 student laptops, digital projector, projection screen and 1 instructor laptop. |
Introduction: | Explain to students that citations are required for academic work; to claim materials created by others as their own work is called plagiarism. Plagiarism is not accepted and is academically dishonest. The process of writing citations as "road maps" to locate the original materials will ensure proper credit to original authors and help the reader (the teacher) locate the cited resources. |
Development: | I will show you Noodle Tools, which is located on the CCHS home page under Library, then Research Links, then Noodle Tools, also known as NoodleBib. |
Practice: | Show the process of creating a personal account, emphasizing the importance of choosing a username and password then writing them down - forgetting them will result in lost work. Explain the steps in creating an MLA citation for a book with one author. |
Accommodations: | Circulate throughout the classroom in order to ensure students are keeping up with the pace of instruction. Notify instructor of students requiring additional assistance. |
Checking For Understanding: | Ask if students understand the process and if they would like more help. |
Closure: | Remind students to keep their usernames and passwords in a safe place. Library staff is available for additional help with Noodle Tools. |
