Content: | Technical Terms Display, Resolution, Cables |
Goals: | To successfully setup a computer with two displays. |
Objectives: | Learn the key factors of monitor resolution and cabling. Effectively use 2 monitors to your advantage. |
Materials: | PC (preferably with dedicated graphics) 2 Cables (hdmi, display port, vga) |
Introduction: | Are you a gamer? Do you spend a lot of time on your pc? Do you struggle keeping organized when working? Purchasing a second monitor and hooking it up to your computer can boost your experience using your pc for any reason. |
Development: | Make sure there is enough room on your desk for two monitors. Plug them in and place them side by side. Run the cables you chose into the gpu/mobo of your computer. Your first display should already be working so you can adjust settings on it. Move to your display settings and your second monitor should be detected. Configure its resolution to match your first monitor (1920x1080). Click extend displays and now your second monitor should now have your display background blank on a desktop. You can now move tabs and start taskbar apps on that new monitor. |
Practice: | Keep in mind, a 144Hz monitor should have a display port as the cable. You can customize your display to whichever setting you please. Whichever works best. Your GPU settings are your friend (right click desktop and select display settings) |
Accommodations: | Asking a parent or experienced friend to help is an option. Seeing it done once in person can make all the difference. |
Checking For Understanding: | Which cables did you use? Which monitor is #1 and #2? Are they the same resolution? What is the resolution? What was the first tab you opened on your new monitor? |
Closure: | Now hopefully you can maximize your workflow and productivity using 2 monitors. You can now pass on your own knowledge! |
Evaluation: | Take pictures or video to show the class what your new setup looks like! |
