Goals:
 My goal for this lesson is for students to be able to illustrate and understand the importance of the food pyramid.
Objectives:
 TEKS 3(A): Explain the food pyramid and its various dietary guidelines.
Materials:
 60 blank food pyramid worksheets, several foods that represent each category on the food pyramid, food magazines
Introduction:
 When students enter the room they will be given a blank food pyramid. With out talking to anyone they must fill out the pyramid using prior knowledge or an educated guess.
Development:
 Using the blank pyramids that were used in the focusing event the class will take notes from the overhead and record them into each section on the pyramid according the the category being covered. The ELL and special education students will be handed their own colorful copy of the already written notes.
Practice:
 Students will have a variety of different foods on their desks. Each group will work together to put the specific food in the category it falls under in the pyramid. I will walk around to answer questions and check to see if students have correctly identified the pieces of food.

Checking For Understanding:
 Students will be given another blank food pyramid to fill out with out aid from each other or their notes.
Closure:
 Understanding the food pyramid allows students to choose the right foods to eat and the correct amounts to intake as well which leads to a healthy functioning body. It is important to eat all categories in the food pyramid everyday. For homework students are to find a recipe that contains at least one ingredient in each category in the food pyramid.
