Lesson Plan : Correct production of /T/

Teacher Name:
 Martha Strickland,SLP
Grade:
 Preschool
Subject:
 Other

Topic:
There are three children in Mrs. Smith's preschool class who have difficulty producing the /T/ sound correctly in the initial, medial, and final positions of words.
Content:
The children have demonstrated via speech screening that they are able to produce the /T/ sound correctly in isolation, and syllables, but have difficulty with production at word level.
Goals:
The preschoolers will be able to produce /T/ correctly during conversational speech in the classroom, at home, and in various social settings.
Objectives:
The preschoolers will produce /T/ in all positions of words, phrases, short sentences, and finally conversation: 85% accuracy for three consecutive sessions will be criteria for advancement to next level of production.
Materials:
A mirror, puppet, tongue depressor, picture cards, and worksheets will be used to help teach correct production.
Introduction:
Tom the Turtle puppet will be used to intoduce the sound /T/ makes. The turtle will be passed to all three children providing opportunities to hold/touch.
Development:
A mirror will be used to show and have children identify the lips, teeth and tongue which are used to produce the /T/ sound. Explanation: teeth stay together to make a fence... tongue stays behind the fence.
Practice:
The speech therapist will provide a model for the /T/ sound and children will produce in isolation in front of mirror. This should be simple because all three children have been found to produce /T/ correctly in isolation and syllables. Next picture cards will be used to imitate simple CVC words: Tap, Take, Tire, Tape etc.
Accommodations:
If a child has difficulty with any steps listed above, the therapist will schedule individual time with that particular child.
Checking For Understanding:
The sound will be considered mastered when it is produced with 85% accuracy during conversation in the classroom, at home and in various social settings: playground, friends house etc. Parent and teacher will be resposible for reporting these outcomes to therapist.
Closure:
Talk to children and parents about importance of producing /T/ correctly all the time, not just when the therapist is listening!
Evaluation:
/T/ produced correctly in conversation 85% of time in all settings listed.
