Goals: | 1. For each student to realize that the differences between where we live and Australia 2. Also, each student will learn to rely on resources for answers and not the teacher 3. The students should gain a better understanding of animals that live there and the environment |
Objectives: | 1. students will list what they already know about the animals in Australia 2. students will create a list of questions they would like answered about the geography or the animals there 3. students will utilize research skills and answer one question for each group 4. each student will write a one to two paragraph answer to their own question |
Materials: | 1. pencil 2. paper 3. resources 4. crayons/ markers |
Introduction: | 1. Show the students the cover of the book, "A Visit To Australia." cover up the word Australia 2. See if the students can figure out what the book is about 3. Read the book to the students |
Development: | 1. I will demonstrate where the answer to their question can be found |
Practice: | 1. The students will be divided into small groups 2. Each group chooses one question to answer 3. They will use resources provided and answer the question in a one to two paragraph answer |
Accommodations: | 1. I will be walking around the room to provide individual help, if needed |
Checking For Understanding: | 1. This will be achieved when they draw the picture |
Closure: | 1. Ask the students if they have any last minute questions 2. Tell them they have about five minutes remaining 3. Then clean up and move onto the next lesson |
Evaluation: | 1. Students will be assessed based on their responses to the questions 2. They will also be assessed based on what they have drawn in their pictures |
