 VOCABULARY (OPPOSITES): DAY/NIGHT, HOT/COLD, LIGHT/DARK, WEAK/STRONG, WET/DRY, LOUD/QUIET, ASLEEP/AWAKE, HIGH/LOW Sentence Construction: Noun vs. Verb
Goals:
 Students will understand targeted opposite pairs. Students will understand nouns and verbs. Students will construct complete sentences containing a noun and a verb.
Objectives:
 When given weather puppet and a carrier phrase, the student will complete the phrase supplying the opposite. When given picture tiles, the student will correctly identify which opposite pair it belongs. When given picture cards, the student will differentiate between nouns and verbs. When given a noun phrase, the student will formulate a sentence using a noun and a verb.
Materials:
 magnetic board picture tiles weather puppets noun/verb picture cards pocket chart stand noun/verb sentence strips
Introduction:
 Have students answer questions...Who can remember some of the seasons? How many are there? What are some of the weather words we talked about last time? (whole group)
Development:
 Read book "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and discuss vocabulary terms as they occur in the book. (whole group)
Practice:
 (Break into groups) Review the weather puppets and corresponding vocabulary terms
Accommodations:
 Using Visual Aids Kinesthetic activity with placing tiles Hands on activity with hand puppets
Checking For Understanding:
 Monitoring student performance during questions, magnetic tile activity, weather puppets
Closure:
 (Whole group) Review terms using the weather puppets as visuals.
