Teacher Name: | Miss Austin |

Goals: | The goals of this lesson are to have the grade one class: - have fun playing a new game - provide me with some practice in teaching a physical education lesson - to enhance my bond with the class which I have already established - to reinforce the concept of a colour pattern |
Objectives: | The objectives of this lesson are to have the grade one class: - practice and implement their cooperation skils with eachother - use their listening skills in order to properly play the game by following my instructions - to work well as a team of three in order to successfully complete the task - to be able to show competitive behaviour in a healthy, respectful way |
Materials: | - 5 bean bags - 18 coloured sqaures of construction paper: - 5 blue - 5 green - 5 yellow * these will be organized into 5 sets of blue, green, yellow * |
Introduction: | I will explain to the students that we will be playing a game which they have never played before to peak their interest. I will then show them the coloured sets of construction paper and ask what it is an example of (a pattern). |
Development: | I will have the class sit in a circle on the gymnasium floor and explain how the game will work. I will give each student a sqaure piece of construstion paper following the pattern of blue, green, yellow. Once every student has their colour, I will explain that each group will consist of three students, each with one of the colours. I will then demomstrate the instructions myself to make sure that they have a visual demonstration. |
Practice: | This will be both a guided and monitiored activity. As the game progresses, I will take time out to explain ways in which they could better their performance or correct them in their actions. While they are playing the game, I will stand back and monitor their activity. |
Accommodations: | If Cayla doesn't seem to understand, I will have her stand with me and help me in choosing which colour to call to run around the outside of the circle. |
Checking For Understanding: | I will have three students explain what I have instructed in order to determine i fthey have understood what I have said and I will have them do a practice run to ensure that everyone knows what will happen. |
Closure: | I will continue to take away bean bags from the centre of the circle until there is only one left. The group to capture this bean nag will be the winner. |
Evaluation: | I will determine how well the students listened to my instructions by how accuratley they played the game. |
Teacher Reflections: | Next time I do this activity, I would use some kind of adhesive sticker to put on the students' hands in order for them to remember what colour they are. The pieces of construction paper which they were to hold seemed to get in their way while they were running. I would also ensure that once each group got their bean bag, that they would immieadiately sit down so that the noise level wouldn't be so high. |
