Content: | Know famous inventors and inventions, learn how to navigate through the internet better, be creative using paintbrush and microsoft word. |
Goals: | The students will have a better feel for navigating through the internet to find information. The students will be very comfortable using Microsoft Word and editing documents etc... as well as using Paintbrush to create pictures etc.. |
Objectives: | The students will learn about a variety of famous inventors and inventions while enhancing their computer skills in Microsoft Word, Paintbrush, and navigating through the internet to find information. |
Materials: | Internet access, Microsoft Word 2000, Paintbrush |
Introduction: | The students will be assigned a specific inventor or invention by the teacher and will have to use the selected internet sites to research the inventor/invention more thoroughly. Each student will become the "expert" on their topic and be able to share it with the class. |
Development: | The teacher will have already prepared an essay on an inventor and created a picture of an invention on Paintbrush to demonstrate to the class. |
Practice: | The students will get one full class period (50 minutes) to research their topic on the internet. The students will get 2 full class periods to create a picture of an invention or something significant to a particular inventor and write an essay on that inventor/invention. |

Checking For Understanding: | The student will provide the teacher with the names and URL's of the websites he/she visited to get the information they used. The student will be evaluated on quality of their essay, correct punctuation etc.. and the creativity of their paintbrush drawing |
Closure: | Students will present their picture, read their essay and inform the rest of the class about their inventor/invention |
Evaluation: | Teacher will check the students essays for punctuation errors and content. Teacher will also check internet sites and review student's research. Teacher will evaluate students pictures created in Paintbrush and look for creativeness and number of tools used etc.. |
