Objectives: | 1. Use of a Spanish-English dictionary to help with translation 2. Use of proper conjugation of verbs in the letter 3. Use of proper sentence structure to be able to write a letter in Spanish |
Materials: | 1. Computer lab with internet access 2. Spanish-English dictionary |
Introduction: | Talk about how Santa is a concept used worldwide. Then explain the process of how the students will be writing a letter to Santa in Spanish. |
Development: | 1. Show the students a few examples on sentence structure in relation to writing a letter and asking for certain objects 2. Show the students how to conjugate verbs in proper tenses 3. Show students how to look up words using a Spanish-English dictionary 4. Discuss how to use an online Spanish translator |
Practice: | 1. Write out a rough draft of letter to Santa to be assessed by the teacher 2. Write out modified final draft using a word processing program. |
Accommodations: | 1. Electronically network with a teacher in a foreign country with the main language being Spanish 2. Use of computer lab for 1 day 3. Use of a word processing program and the internet for a online Spanish translator |

Closure: | 1. Discuss with the students the feedback given by foreign teacher 2. Discuss the difficulties with translation both ways- from Spanish to English and the corresponding letter in English from a Spanish speaking student |
Evaluation: | Grade the final draft of the letter sent to students in a foreign country using the knowledge learned in class and ability to formulate a solution to unknown words by using a Spanish-English dictionary. |
