Materials: | Prentice Hall Literature Book, Literature/Grammar Test, "Dust Tracks on a Road" worksheets, and vocabulary. |
Introduction: | Monday: TTW give an anticipation guide to the story that will help the students understand the underlying message of the story. TTW also explain to the students the main purpose of the story. Tuesday-Wednesday: TTW explain the main point of the story, as well as, explain and make sure the students understand and remember the information that was read the previous class day. Thursday: TTW state the objectives for the day and will make sure the students understand that the information they complete today will help them understand the material better. Friday: TTW give the students a chance to ask any questions that they need cleared up before taking the test. |
Development: | Monday: TTW read the author's information aloud as the students read and take notes quietly. TTW help the students understand that since this is an autobiography that this is mainly about her life. Tuesday-Wednesday: TTW give more ways to understanding what the author was trying to achieve by writing this story. Thursday: TTW explain to the students that the work given today will help them master their grammar and writing skills. Friday: TTW hand-out the tests for "Dust Tracks on a Road" |
Practice: | Monday: TTW give the students a worksheet with the vocabulary words so that they can define the words. Tuesday-Wednesday: TTW start the lesson by reading the first paragraph where the class left off to start the class off for their reading. Thursday: TTW begin the lesson by doing an example of the classwork on the board for the students to see. |
Accommodations: | Monday-Wednesday: TTW help those students that have a problem understanding the story being read aloud by asking as many questions as possible to make sure they are with the rest of the class. Thursday: TTW help those students struggling to understand the assignment that was given for the day. TTW break down the information. |
Checking For Understanding: | Monday-Wednesday: TTW observe the students as they read the story aloud and will randomly ask questions so that TTW be able to see who has been reading with the class. Thursday: TTW observe the students as they complete the assignments to make sure they are completing the assignments correctly. Friday: TTW ask the students if they have any questions with the material and will have them explain the directions in their terms to make sure they understand. |
Closure: | Monday: TTW review the part of the story where the class left off to make sure everyone understood what was read during class. TTW also explain the homework assignment for the night which will be to make a word scramble using the vocabulary words. Tuesday-Thursday: TTW go over what they did today to make sure they understood the material. TTW also give the objectives for the next class period and explain how what they learned will help them with their vocabulary and grammar. |
