Lesson Plan : The Assembly Line
Teacher Name: | Mr. Detter |
Grade: | Grade 6 |
Subject: | Other |
Topic: | The purpose and function of an assembly line. |
Content: | Assembly line. Henry Ford. Manufacturing technology. |
Goals: | The goal will be for students to understand how assembly lines are used and what purpose they serve in society. |
Objectives: | |
Materials: | Modern Marvels, YouTube, PowerPoint, Pen, Paper. |
Introduction: | I will begin the lecture be reinforcing the students knowledge about what an assembly line is used for. |
Development: | I will demonstrate how to successful take apart and pen and put it back together as if it were on an assembly line. |
Practice: | At their tables, students will take out a sheet of paper and fold it four times. This will help them understand that there are several steps in assembling a device or structure. |
Accommodations: | Students with hearing and visual impairments will sit closer to the front of the classroom to see the demonstration better. |
Checking For Understanding: | During my demonstration I will use different types of questioning strategies to assess how much the students have retained from my lecture. |
Closure: | Finally, to wrap up the demonstration, I will provide an overview of the material taught and summarize the importance of the assembly line in our society today. |
Evaluation: | I will show students how an assembly line works and what purpose it does serve. After I have completed my demonstration I will ask for 4-5 volunteers to come forward and use what I have just taught them to complete the task I assign. The task will be to build a paper airplane from scratch and have each student make a fold, as if they were in an assembly line. When the airplane reaches the last student, that student will then toss the airplane through the air. This, although a small example, will give students an idea of how an assembly line takes something from scratch and forms a useful device. |
Teacher Reflections: | I will reflect on the demonstration after the lesson is complete. |
