Goals:
 Practice following directions. To observe the changes in texture and color when heat is applied to food. To develop safety cooking habits To taste and discover ingredients used to prepare Applesauce. To add ingredients that change color, and add flavor to traditional. foods.
Objectives:
 Given a recipe and necessary kitchen tools and utensils the learner will prepare a variety of flavored applesauce.
Materials:
 Recipe,microwave, blender, knives, peelers, mixing bowls, measuring utensils, apples, sugar, cinnamon, strawberries, peaches, water, bowls, spoons and aprons.
Introduction:
 Set up Lab area with copies of recipes, and a tray displaying food items. Ask students to brainstorm to think of ways to change ordinary foods to make them more appealing for young children. Share responses... Tell students today we are going to make homemade applesauce and add flavor and color, then we will have a taste test.
Development:
 Tell students we will all go over to the sink and wash our hands and each put on an apron. Teacher will have students watch as she demonstrates reading and following recipe directions. Demonstrate using peelers correctly, and proper measurements.
Practice:
 Students will work in assigned lab areas with their assigned lab group. Students will work together to wash and peel apples using the peelers correctly.
Accommodations:
 Students who may not eat applesauce will participate in lab but will be allowed to eat plain apples or other fruits used in recipe.
Checking For Understanding:
 Have students critique lab and discuss nutritional value, food appeal, texture, variety and flavor of their recipes. Ask students if they think the children at their internship would enjoy preparing applesauce. Discuss objectives that could be covered in preparing this lab with preschoolers.
Closure:
 Eat applesauce. Clean Lab.
Evaluation:
 Visit each lab. Taste test applesauce and inspect for cleaniness.
