Objectives:
 Students will be able to recognize proofreaders marks and apply them correctly in documents. Students will be able to properly use punctuation in sentences by following proofreaders and editing marks.
Materials:
 Handouts Textbook InFocus
Introduction:
 Talk to the students using no moderation in your tone.
Development:
 Using an overhead projector write the proofreaders marks listed in the vocabulary section. Explain what each means and how to use it. Prepare ahead of time a transparency with sentences that need to be corrected. Place it on the projector and show the students how changes would be indicated using proofreaders marks. Then show the sentences with the corrections made.
Practice:
 Using the overhead projector, let students come up and make changes on the sentences inserting editing marks where necessary.

Checking For Understanding:
 Give a six question quiz where the students will write the correct proofreaders marks for each of the vocabulary words.
Closure:
 Pass out strips of paper that have sentences on them, one to each student. Have the student record the correct proofreaders marks on the strip to properly edit the sentence. Collect them as they line up to leave the classroom, making sure each is correct. If the editing is not correct, changes must be made before the student may exit the classroom.
