Goals:
 Define Pollution. List the various types of pollution. State the meaning of water pollution.
Objectives:
 Give examples of water pollution. Explain the sources of water pollution. Mention the harmful effects of water pollution. Analysis the various reasons of water pollution.
Materials:
 Textbook Social Science, Holy Faith, Class VI TEACHING AIDS: Charts AV Aids : Presentation on Ms PowerPoint.
Introduction:
 Teacher will ask few questions from the students before starting the lesson to check the previous knowledge. Ques. What do you mean by pollution? Expected Answer: It is the addition of any material or forms of energy in air, water or land which adversely alters the natural quality of the environment. Now, Teacher will introduce the topic by saying – As we already know that about 71% of earth’s surface is covered with water. Water is the most important resource on earth. It is used for drinking, agricultural activity, plant growth, industrial activity etc. Now days, pollution has become a serious problem. So today we will learn about pollution.
Development:
 Through questions and answers teacher will introduce the topic:It is the addition of any material or forms of energy in air, water or land, which adversely alters the natural quality of the environment. - Define Pollution. - List the various types of pollution. Teacher will show the slide. Water pollution, Air pollution, Noise pollution Teacher will introduce the topic by saying that it has become a serious problem. Largest sources of pollution are liquid wastes. These flow from industry, agriculture & municipal wastes and tends to pollute the water. These wastes even when dumped on land, flow to rivers, lakes, and oceans. And they contain many dangerous chemicals, which pose a threat to plant and animal life. Teacher will show the various sources of Water pollution:Sewage – It is refered as waste, which is discarded from households and it contains variety of impurities.Garbage – Many people dump their garbage into river, lakes and seas, which leads to water pollution. Use of detergents and washing powders and their disposal in water.Agricultural runoff – water from fields are also drained into rivers and they contains fertilizers and pesticides. Petroleum oil – Petroleum is the major pollutant during its storage, extraction and transportation. During drilling and shipping petroleum may pollute water due to its leakage.Industrial Waste – Most of the industries discharge their waste into rivers and lakes, which is the major cause for water pollution. 1) Polluted water may cause several diseases. 2) Many species of plants and animals do not survive in polluted water. 3) Pollutants which are water soluble make water hard, this can not be used for washing and drinking purpose. 4) Many varieties of plants and animals have become extinct due to contamination of water.
Practice:
 The students will listen carefully and attentively. The students will observe the pictures on computer.
