Lesson Plan : Learning Trigonometry

Teacher Name:
 Ronnie P Thomas
Grade:
 Grade 9-10
Subject:
 Math

Topic:
 Learning the basics of Trigonometry
Content:
Learning the basics(sin, cos, tan) using triangles, unit circle. Also learning some basic formulas. Try out some problems.
Goals:
Students will be able to understand and solve problems requiring basic trigonometry.
Objectives:
Define sin,cos and tan based on a right angled triangle. Know the values of sin,cos for few angles. Use basic formulas to solve problems.
Materials:
Unit circles, sin, cos, tan graphs, right angled triangles showing the trig. identities.
Introduction:
Start with the triangle. Define sin and cos for starts. Then continue with tan.
Development:
Demonstrate the unit circle, show the graphs depicting the sin, cos, tan curves. Also explain the basic formulas.
Practice:
Find sin, cos, tan values of a triangle. Use the trig. identities in a formula. Remember the basic sin, cos, tan values for common angles.
Accommodations:
Provide formula sheets for people having trouble understanding the concepts
Checking For Understanding:
Practice problems. Being able to explain trig. identities using the unit circle and right triangles
Closure:

Evaluation:
Final test at the end of the course. Slightly tricky problems.
