Goals: | 1) Investigate the sociopolitical and economic environment of the Qin Dynasty in order to understand the tumultuous period of time between 221 and 201 BC 2) Asses the influence of ideals, values, and beliefs propagated by Qin Shi Huang as it's currently understood by modern philosophers and students of history |
Objectives: | 1) Define key terms 2) Map a timeline of events illustrating pivotal shifts in sociopolitical power such as major victories, doctrines, ideals, and rituals 3) Complete work sheet detailing the most important events in the Qin Dynasty 4) Have an open discussion aboput the causes and effects of the Qin Dynasty |
Materials: | 1) Power Point Presentation 2) Pencil/Pen Exercise Sheets 3) Textbook |
Introduction: | I will ask students to brainstorm ideas that summarizes the life of a person living in the Qin Dynasty. Student ideas that merit good logic will be included in a brainstorm web and displayed on the black board. Afterwards, we will formally introduce the topic with power point slides containing more accurate information. |
Development: | Students will take notes using the power point presentation and classroom discussion. Afterwards students are encouraged to read the corresponding chapter in the textbook, and students are allotted 20 minutes to read the chapter. |
Practice: | Students will be presented with a matching activity where they match a year with an event as well as a few true/false questions to test their knowledge. |
Accommodations: | I will walk around the classroom in effort of answering student questions individually. |
Checking For Understanding: | Quick review of the worksheet with the class. Students have the opportunity to express their thoughts in front of their classmates. Then I will ask questions to the class that may challenge the students or offer different perspective. |
Closure: | Watch The First Emperor of China - the Qin Dynasty, a documentary on Youtube for the remainder of class. |
Evaluation: | The in-class worksheet will be graded for participation marks, and the content will appear in the unit test scheduled for the end of the month. |
Teacher Reflections: | After grading the worksheet, I will open up discussion at the beginning of the next class in effort of answering questions that students have about the previous lecture. |
