Introduction: | Today we are going to learn how to create a hierarchy chart in Microsoft word using Smart art, and learn the importance of them. Hierarchy charts are charts with different levels, the top being the highest level and the bottom being the lowest level. Hierarchy charts are a lot like pyramids where the lower level is much more broad than the higher level. For example there will never be more CEO's than employees. They are useful in business because they help with the organization of the chain of command and displays the relationships of each level which is very important in terms of efficiency since everyone knows where they stand. |
Development: | To create a hierarchy chart: 1. Click the insert tab on the top left of the screen and Click on the Smart Art Item located in the “Illustrations” Ribbon and select “Hierarchy” from the list of Smart Art graphics 2. Select “Organization Chart” Which is the first item in the list of Hierarchy charts 3. Click on each shape and type to enter text 4.). Click on the arrow beside the Add Shape ribbon item, and a drop-down menu should appear with a list of options. You can add regular shapes to the chart or create assistants that add another level to the chart. 6. Click on the text pane to edit shape text, or click on each individual shape 7. Promote and demote, raise or lower a shape in the chart by one level 8. You can also move shapes around its level by using the "move up" and "move down" buttons 9. To delete a shape, right-click on the shape and select the delete option. |
Practice: | Create a basic Hierarchy chart with 2 levels, the top level being manager, and the bottom level being employees. |
