Objectives: | round whole numbers to nearest thousands by underlining the numbers at thousand place. |
Materials: | white pages, marker |
Introduction: | drawing number lines and write some numbers and ask students to identify the numbers and then tell them we are going to round them to nearest thousand place. |
Development: | write a number like 3360 and underline its thousand place and ask them if it lies halfway between 3000 and 4000.mark an halfway point(3500) and if number is left to the halfway point it is closer to 3000 if right then it is 4000. |
Practice: | have them practice rounding numbers by giving them page of blank number line and writing a number on board and asking them to round to nearest thousand with partner. |
Accommodations: | provide examples during practice. |
Checking For Understanding: | give them sticky notes with some numbers on it and see students rounding numbers to nearest thousand in groups and individually by collecting those notes. |
Closure: | Students very well able to make a number line and round numbers to nearest thousand. |
