Grade: | Grade 4 |
Subject: | PE and Health |
Topic: | Kicking a soccer ball |
Content: | banana-kick finesse shot power strike |
Goals: | Teach how to kick a soccer ball in 3 different ways. Be focused and kick only when asked to kick |
Objectives: | have them be able to kick the ball so the ball goes more than a 10 feet differentiation between the different kicks, banana, finesse, power |
Materials: | 1 soccer ball, preferably a pair of soccer cleats. If not, a comfortable pair of laced shoes. |
Introduction: | Lace up your cleats or shoes, ensure your ball is properly pumped. Go to an open area with nothing that is fragile. Demonstrate a shot |
Development: | Demonstrate the activity. Show them the different places to kick the ball in order to make the ball do different things. |
Practice: | Have the student try the activity. Kick the ball with the laces, outside and inside of the foot and explain what they must do. |
Accommodations: | Toe bash shot is very easy and requires little to no explanation. Just kick the ball with the top of your foot. |
Checking For Understanding: | Have a shoot-out for the class. See who can score on the target using the different techniques learned. |
Closure: | Take off cleats, grab the ball, congratulate the students on their successes. |
Evaluation: | observe whether they can reproduce the different kicks kicking with different areas of their foot. 1 point for each style of shot learned. |
Teacher Reflections: | Reflect on how to teach better next time. Observe how the students reacted to the lesson. Did they get rowdy, not focus, start kicking the ball when they weren't supposed to etc. |
